Private William Robinson

 

This man was probably the William Robinson born on 28 July 1900 at Muckamore Grange, County Antrim, the first of six children of labourer (later linen lapper, stock-keeper and cloth passer) John Alexander Robinson and his wife Margaret (née Kelly). At the time of the 1911 Census he was living at Muckamore with his parents and his three surviving siblings (another would be born soon after).

Robinson enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Belfast on 12 October 1918 (Corps of Hussars No.72191). He stated that he was born in Muckamore, was a general labourer, and was 19 years old. He was described as being 5' 6¼" tall, with a fresh complexion, brown hair and grey eyes. Tattooed on his left forearm were a girl's head and 'W. Robinson'.

He was reported to have deserted from the regiment's reserve depot at Antrim on 5 November 1918.
